Hydrometry and Telemetry Officer

Pertemps Managed Solutions is seeking a dedicated and skilled Hydrometry and Telemetry Officer to join the team on a 12-month contract. This field-based role involves the installation of telemetered instruments, supporting the organisation's Water Management and Flood Risk strategies.
About the RoleThis position requires a strong understanding of Hydrometry and Telemetry systems, as well as experience in installing monitoring equipment and calibrating measuring devices. The successful candidate will work closely with the team to prioritise health and safety, secure data acquisition, and develop strong relationships with internal and external customers.
The key responsibilities include:
- Securing and transferring hydrometric data in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prioritising health and safety for oneself, the team, and the public while managing the Hydrometry & Telemetry network.
- Calibrating monitoring equipment, measuring channel flow, maintaining sites, installing monitoring equipment, and inputting data into the hydrometric archive (WISKI).
- Following the team's work plan to meet objectives and Service Level Agreements, with flexibility for operational changes.
- Assisting in fault finding and repair of telemetry outstation equipment to minimise disruption to Flood Warning Service or Water Management sites.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers, contributing to environmental goals.
- Supporting annual work plans, standards, and practices, collaborating closely with team members.
- Assisting with the onsite installation of new small-scale hydrometric sites, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and customer requirements.
- Pursuing personal development through effective use of the personal development plan.
- Participating in incident response activities as required.
To be considered for this role, you will need to have:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in a scientific or engineering subject, with ideally some relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills and effective interpersonal abilities.
- Awareness and understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to the role.
- An understanding of Hydrometry and Telemetry systems and their role in the organisations Water Management and Flood Risk strategies.
- The ability to prioritise and adapt workload to team needs, working both independently and collaboratively.
