Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will work as part of our friendly community dietitians team, providing dietetic advice to patients at home or in-patients in community hospital settings. They will participate in continuing professional development, audit, and research within this specialist area to further best practice and personal development.

The post holder will also be involved in supporting junior dietitians and students. Regular travel between sites is required, and a car driver with access to a car for work is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake dietetic assessments of referred patients, taking into account medical, social, cultural, and psychological factors.
  • Determine and prescribe the appropriate dietetic treatment and develop treatment plans.
  • Provide training to patients, carers, and staff, and order equipment/appropriate ancillaries for patients.
  • Negotiate change with patients to enable them to achieve targets, overcoming barriers to change including dietary, environmental, social, and psychological factors.
  • Communicate complex information in an understandable form to patients who may have barriers to communication and understanding.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor of Science (Honours degree) in Nutrition and Dietetics, Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, or postgraduate Diploma.

Desirable Criteria

  • Post-registration training in cognitive behavioural therapy.
  • Student clinical facilitator training course.
  • Relevant postgraduate courses.

Registration

Essential Criteria

  • State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association.

Desirable Criteria

  • Member of the BDA specialist group.

Clinical

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of NHS working.
  • Experience of working with people in the community setting.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with those ambivalent to change.

Other Relevant Experience

  • Car owner/driver.

  • Experience in research, audit, or service development.

People Management
