About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Manager to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. As Associate Head of Finance, you will play a key role in delivering all aspects of the business unit's financial management and will manage a team of accountants to provide day-to-day support in all aspects of the hospital's financial performance and business planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver all aspects of the business unit's financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Manage a team of accountants to provide day-to-day support in all aspects of the hospital's financial performance and business planning.
  • Provide leadership to the Royal London and Mile End Hospital sites, demonstrating expert accounting and business knowledge, analytical support, and clear presentation of complex financial and other information to clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
  • Constructively and positively challenge all aspects of the sites' financial and business performance.
  • Ensure the delivery, accuracy, and timeliness of the monthly performance reports to the Hospital Executive Board, ensuring that procedures and controls are up to date and implemented.
  • Provide support to the Head of Finance in the strategic direction and business plan of the unit.
  • Specialist knowledge of reporting (including PLICS), National Tariff Payment System (NTPS), National Cost Collection (NCC), and revenue consequences of capital will be required to assist in the delivery of high-quality comprehensive reports periodically to the Trust executive and non-executive teams.
  • Ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall finance function and be responsible for the integrity of processes and systems within it.

Requirements
  • Over 5 years of senior NHS financial management experience, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience of advising and explaining complex financial information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading a finance service in a period of change.
  • Proven staff management skills and the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Excellent planning (short and long term) and organisational skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and determine an appropriate course of action.
  • Excellent awareness of current issues and developments in the NHS.
  • Working knowledge of SLAs and financial management.
  • Qualified CCAB or CIMA for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings.
