About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join our team at the Government Legal Department. As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to our ministers and officials, and leading a team of legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide risk-based legal advice to DBT ministers and officials, demonstrating an understanding of the Department's business and offering solutions.
- Provide visible and strategic legal leadership in relation to key areas of DBT policy.
- Lead a team of legal professionals, developing their skills and capability, and ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality legal advice.
- Engage with staff and stakeholders, promoting a culture of inclusion and equal opportunity, and ensuring that the diversity of individuals' backgrounds and experiences are valued and respected.
- Embed a culture of innovation, efficiency, and support, and ensure that the team is equipped to deliver high-quality services.
Requirements
- A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in any subject, or equivalent high-level academic and/or professional achievement.
- Qualified to practise as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales, or equivalent overseas qualification.
- Experience of leading a team of legal professionals, and providing strategic legal advice to senior officials.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to think strategically, and bring a wide range of legal experience and knowledge to help solve complex issues.
