Deputy Director for Health Improvement, South West

The Department of Health and Social Care is seeking a highly experienced public health professional to fill the role of Deputy Director for Health Improvement in the South West region. This is a senior-level position that requires a strong commitment to public health principles and team working.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe Deputy Director will have day-to-day operational responsibility for the provision of safe and effective health improvement and workforce development advice and support. This will involve managing a team of health improvement and workforce development staff who deliver functions devolved to the region from the Secretary of State and national guidance.
The Deputy Director will also support the Regional Director in the strategic oversight of the contribution to improving and protecting the public's health and reducing health inequalities in the South West region. This will involve working with partners in the region to build and develop the local public health system through the provision of expert advice and insight.
About the RoleThe Office of Health and Disparities (OHID) in the Department of Health and Social Care drives the Government's health improvement agenda. The Deputy Director will play a key role in leading the development and delivery of the Government's work to improve and level up health outcomes with a clear focus on public health, prevention, and health disparities.
Requirements- Applicants must meet either of the following: Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- All candidates must meet the faculty of Public Health Competencies expected of all public health consultants/specialists
