Assistant Transport Manager

As a key member of our Transport Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our 24/7 Transport operations. Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for managing the Transport Team and supporting the Transport Manager in achieving cost control targets.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans and deliver products to customers within agreed service levels.
- Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports and daily confirmation of spend.
- Ensure all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan resources.
- Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training, and personal development plans.
- Ensure all staff are fully trained and equipped.
- Ensure the Transport team complies with all relevant statutes and regulations.
- Communicate with 3rd Party hauliers regarding control of reported defects on drop trailers.
- Check and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoices.
- Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time.
- Monitor, audit, and control suppliers.
- Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
- Support communication throughout the department, including team briefings and publication of KPIs.
- Support the implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business.
- Generate and implement ideas to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
- Be responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of the Transport Budget, including various KPIs and costs.
- Support the company in reducing its carbon footprint, for example, reducing road miles.
- Ability to deputise for the Transport Manager.
- Previous Transport Management experience.
- Previous experience of leading, motivating, and managing a team.
- Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team.
- Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team.
- Commercially focused, consumer-oriented, and customer-service-driven.
- Problem-solving in a pressurised environment.
- National and International CPC qualification – desirable.
- Good commercial knowledge of transport operations, including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment.
- Previous supervisory experience within a FMCG environment.
