Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) to work on a project focused on developing a novel miniaturized on-chip approach for temperature measurement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and modeling of active quantum-confined semiconductor optical resonators for temperature measurement
  • Fabrication and testing of prototypes at the NPL
  • Development of practical primary thermometry using active Ring Resonator Thermometry
  • Integration of all components, including source, resonator, and detector, on a single device
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant field, such as physics, materials science, or engineering
  • Strong background in quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and semiconductor physics
  • Experience with computer-based design and modeling, as well as fabrication and testing of prototypes
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
