About The Role

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Radiation Protection and Compliance Lead to join our Environmental Health & Safety Team in Coventry. This exciting opportunity will see you play a pivotal role in establishing and operating a new research and development cell for an MTC customer.

Your Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of a cutting-edge research facility, developing comprehensive Health & Safety strategies and policies that ensure safe operation, maintenance, and disposal throughout its lifecycle.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of potential radiation risks within the workplace, providing expert advice on plant design features, engineering controls, shielding, equipment selection, and waste disposal practices.
  • Recommend optimal methods and equipment for radiation protection during all operational activities involving plant processes and equipment.
  • Provide guidance on the procurement, maintenance, and utilization of radiation protection and detection equipment.
  • Lead the development of comprehensive risk assessments, analyses, documentation, and action plans to ensure compliance with regulatory safety requirements.
  • Take the lead role in radiation risk assessments, plant hazard identification studies, and the generation of Safety Cases.
  • Establish robust management systems and procedures for operational radiation protection.
  • Define criteria for designating controlled and supervised areas within the facility.
  • Develop protocols for radiological surveys and airborne monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate with dosimetry providers to establish a system for internal and external dosimetry, ensuring accurate personal radiation records are maintained.

About You

We are seeking an individual who possesses:

  • Chartered Membership of the Society for Radiological Protection.
  • Current Radiation Protection Adviser status approved by a relevant awarding body.
  • A Scientific or Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification, demonstrating expertise in operational radiation protection, radiological material and waste management, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information.
  • Experience in generating nuclear plant Safety Cases.
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and influencing skills, enabling you to engage with diverse stakeholders, including senior management, project teams, and operational staff.
  • Eligibility for UK National Security Clearance.
