Engineering Manager Job Description

BlueGate Consulting Ltd is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Engineering department in East Kilbride, Glasgow. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing multiple engineering resources, developing department plans, and recruiting, growing, and training employees in complex engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the output and function of the Engineering Department, providing solutions aligned to customer requirements.
  2. Oversee research and development, including engineering and mechanical designs, material selection, and compliance to design codes and contract requirements.
  3. Collaborate with management, production, and sales staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  4. Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  5. Analyse technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  6. Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for engineering and technical work performed in the department.
  7. Inspire, mentor, grow, and develop engineering talent while providing vision and direction for the team.
Requirements:
  1. Degree/Advanced/Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering Function (Mechanical) and/or equivalent job experience.
  2. 5+ years of experience in a related/similar mechanical engineering role, preferably within a supervisory/mentoring capacity.
  3. Experience in mechanical engineering design and analysis in the field of industrial rotating machinery.
  4. Strong SolidWorks skills with the ability to conduct analysis with manual or finite element analysis techniques.
  5. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
  6. Comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles associated with the design, analysis, and operation of rotating equipment.
  7. Proficient in SolidWorks, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
