Job Title: Clinical Psychologist/Psychotherapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Psychologist/Psychotherapist to join our Perinatal Mental Health Team in East London. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of systemic provision in the team, providing specialist assessments and couple/family interventions, and working with women and birthing people experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties in the perinatal period.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Lead on couple and family therapy provision within the perinatal mental health team and support the development of systemic practice throughout the service.
  2. Provide systemic consultation and training where required.
  3. Offer adaptive and flexible approaches to service users who may have poor communication skills and self-care and special physical and/or mental health needs.
  4. Communicate across language and cultural barriers, including use of interpreters for clinical work.
  5. Be responsible for recording, monitoring and reporting on clinical work and communicating complex clinical information to a variety of recipients, e.g. service users, families and carers, other professionals, MAPPA and other formal panels and statutory and voluntary organisations, orally, in writing and/or electronically, and as specified by the service.
  6. Provide highly specialist couple and family interventions to Service Users in the PMHT, appropriate for service users experiencing complex difficulties in the perinatal period.
  7. Contribute to the development of services that seek to acknowledge and address as appropriate existing health inequalities, collaborating with other leads including the borough lead for community inclusion.
  8. Take into account the particular needs of people from minority ethnic groups, and adapt assessment, formulation and intervention as appropriate.
  9. Use your theoretical knowledge base and highly specialist clinical skills to develop and support the psychological skills of others in the team via the development and delivery of teaching, training, supervision, support and consultation.
  10. Be responsible for providing a systemic perspective/psychological expertise for service or team activities, including clinical care, team or service dynamics, systems, health promotion, team or service organisation, in a range of settings, e.g.,
  11. Be responsible for developing and maintaining knowledge of local resources and developing working relationships with relevant statutory, voluntary and community groups and organisations.
  12. Participate in the organisation and delivery of training events and consultancy covering this highly specialist area, and including work with local voluntary organisations.
  13. Participate in the evaluation of services, including collection of monitoring information as required.
  14. Receive regular clinical and management supervision in accordance with good practice guidelines to ensure high quality work, to engage in the Individual Performance Review process and continuing professional development, and generally work within a clinical governance framework.
  15. Use computer data entry systems, record clinical input and outcome data.
  16. Contribute to the monitoring and audit of work in the service.
  17. Offer line management and supervision as appropriate to psychology colleagues, including qualified psychologists and trainees.
  18. Participate in the appraisal and job planning of psychologists and other team members as appropriate.
  19. Participate, as appropriate, in staff recruitment, both in the short-listing process, and as a member of selection panels for assistant, trainee and qualified psychologist posts.
  20. To make an active contribution to pursue the aims, objectives and overall strategy of the service thereby contributing to the development of clinical services provided within psychological therapies service.
Person Specification:

Education/ Qualification/ Training:

  • Professional Qualification
  • Master or Doctoral level training in F&S Psychotherapy
  • PG Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (BPS)
  • HCPC registration

Desirable:

  • Additional relevant clinical and/or managerial knowledge and skills acquired through formal training.
  • Knowledge of relevant research and literature relating to Perinatal psychology and systemic therapy.
  • Perinatal mental health Behavioural couples therapy (BCT).

Experience:

  • Experience of working as a qualified family therapist or clinical/counselling psychologist for at least 18 months.
  • Experience of offering systemic therapy to families with serious relationship difficulties and attachment difficulties.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team, with adult service users who have experienced moderate-severe mental health difficulties such as psychosis, personality disorder, PTSD, OCD, severe depression and anxiety.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with adults with mental health problems needing support to develop positive attachments with their children in the perinatal period.
  • Experience of working with risk issues and safeguarding, making referrals to statutory organisations where appropriate.
  • Experience of supervising psychology colleagues.
  • Awareness of government frameworks and guidelines relating to mental health, e.g. NHS Long Term Plan.
  • Commitment to working as part of an MDT and within the framework of the secondary care psychology service.
