About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Operative/Ganger to join our Highways Maintenance Team in Peterborough. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a minimum of two operatives to carry out highway maintenance work safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of operatives to carry out highway maintenance work, including excavation, kerbing, and drainage installations.
  • Take ownership of daily planning and material ordering to ensure efficient and effective work delivery.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Operate small plant and equipment used in highway maintenance, with guidance from the Site Supervisor.
  • Install traffic management systems under instruction from the Site Supervisor.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out system covering the Peterborough Highway Services network.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • A clean UK driving license.
  • Highways work experience.
  • Ability to work outside normal hours and weekends as required, in all weather conditions.
  • Good customer care skills, including dealing with the public.
  • Demonstration of capability to gain HGV Class C license during probationary period.
  • LGV/HGV Class C license required.
  • NRSWA and CSCS certifications.
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in patching, kerbing, ironworks, drainage, and other aspects of highway maintenance works.
Additional Information
  • You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity, demonstrated through the use of hand tools.
  • You will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to walk and stand on uneven ground.
  • You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction.
