Job Title: Primate Curator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Primate Curator to join our team at the Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of our primate collection, including the great apes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the primate team, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and welfare.
- Develop and implement effective animal management plans, including breeding programs and species management.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure the health and well-being of the primates.
- Work closely with the maintenance department to ensure the upkeep of the primate enclosures and facilities.
- Represent the Association at professional and scientific bodies, promoting our reputation as a leading centre of animal management and conservation.
- Participate in the development of new exhibits and projects, ensuring they meet the highest standards of animal welfare and conservation.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a BSc (or equivalent experience) in an animal or conservation-related subject.
- Extensive knowledge of primate behavior, biology, and conservation.
- Proven experience in managing large and complex teams, with a strong track record of leadership and team development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external partners.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
