The Role – Primate Conservation Assistant Curator
Reporting to the Senior Curator, you will oversee all aspects of animal welfare and the presentation of our primate species, including our great apes. Primate Conservation Assistant Curator, you will:

• Provide exemplary leadership, fostering a solution-oriented approach to challenges while promoting a positive team culture and engagement.

• Manage all facets of team development, including training, performance evaluations, and necessary HR processes.

• Ensure the continuous enhancement of animal care standards in accordance with best practices, regulatory requirements, and ethical considerations.

• Regularly evaluate our animal management practices, proposing and implementing improvements.

• Establish effective communication channels with other curators, animal care staff, and the broader team, ensuring timely and efficient information sharing.

• Assume Duty Animal Manager responsibilities on a rotational basis with other senior animal team members, leading in the event of an animal emergency.

• Communicate professionally and effectively with external colleagues, particularly regarding the management of primate species at both national and international levels.

• Ensure adherence to the organization's policies, procedures, and protocols at all times, updating relevant Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures as needed.

• Proactively address maintenance issues, collaborating with the maintenance department.

• Work closely with the veterinary team on all aspects of animal health care, including preventative medicine, reactive care, and health monitoring through training.

• Actively support and facilitate collaborative efforts with other departments, including research, education, and animal services.

• Suggest innovative zoo-based research initiatives for relevant species.

• Collaborate with all stakeholders involved in project planning and execution, actively participating in species and exhibit development.

• Represent the organization on relevant professional and scientific bodies, promoting our reputation as a leader in animal management, research, conservation, and education.

• Contribute to the security of the premises and grounds, participating in the firearms/recapture team.

• Be willing to undergo first aid training and be available for on-call duties as part of the first aid team.

Our Requirements - Primate Conservation Assistant Curator

• A minimum of a BSc (or equivalent experience) in an animal or conservation-related field, with a recognized qualification.

• Extensive knowledge of modern practices for the care of a wide range of primates in zoological settings, including great apes.

• Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in species management, demonstrating a strong commitment to high standards.

• Proven experience in managing large, complex teams, with the ability to inspire and lead diverse groups of individuals with a flexible and calm approach.

• A high level of understanding regarding breeding program management and the role of modern zoos in species and habitat conservation, along with a solid grasp of species planning.

• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality work efficiently.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant animal management software.
