Primate Conservation Assistant Curator

Key Responsibilities – Primate Conservation Assistant Curator
Reporting to the Senior Curator, you will oversee the wellbeing and presentation of our primate species, ensuring adherence to our organizational values and fostering a culture of excellence among your team. Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading and inspiring a large team, promoting a collaborative and solution-oriented environment.
• Managing team dynamics, including training, development, and performance evaluations, while ensuring compliance with HR protocols.
• Continuously improving animal care standards in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements, contributing to ethical decision-making.
• Conducting regular assessments of animal management practices and implementing enhancements as needed.
• Facilitating effective communication within the organization, ensuring vital information is shared promptly and accurately.
• Taking on Duty Animal Manager responsibilities as part of a senior team, leading during animal emergencies.
• Engaging with external colleagues regarding the management of primate species at both national and international levels.
• Ensuring compliance with all organizational policies and updating relevant risk assessments and operational procedures.
• Proactively addressing maintenance issues in collaboration with the maintenance department.
• Collaborating closely with veterinary staff on all aspects of animal health, including preventative care and health monitoring.
• Supporting interdisciplinary efforts in research, education, and animal services.
• Initiating and suggesting research projects that benefit our primate species.
• Participating in species and exhibit planning, ensuring the best outcomes for animal welfare and visitor engagement.
• Representing the organization in professional and scientific forums, enhancing our reputation in animal management and conservation.
• Contributing to the security of the premises as a member of the emergency response team.
• Being prepared to undertake first aid training and participate in the first aid duty roster.
Qualifications – Primate Conservation Assistant Curator
• A minimum of a BSc degree (or equivalent experience) in an animal or conservation-related field, with relevant qualifications.
• In-depth knowledge of contemporary practices in primate care and management, particularly for great apes.
• A strong commitment to high standards of animal care and a proactive approach to species management.
• Proven experience in managing large teams effectively, demonstrating leadership and adaptability.
• Comprehensive understanding of breeding programs and the role of modern zoos in conservation efforts.
• Exceptional time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant animal management software.
Employment Package
