Sustainability Technical Lead

ATTB - The Big Jobsite has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Technical Lead to join our team in Culham, Oxfordshire. This is a competitive salary role (£60,000 - £80,000 per annum), offering an ongoing contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the environmental and sustainability direction of complex projects, including JET Decommissioning & Repurposing and LIBRTI engineering project. As a key member of our team, you will shape environmental strategies, define scoping and procurement strategies for outsourced environmental studies, and embed environmental requirements into engineering projects through Best Available Techniques (BAT) workshops and Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID) planning.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical Expertise: Serve as the environmental discipline's expert, leading major programmes such as JET Decommissioning & Repurposing, and other engineering projects.
  2. Environment & Sustainability Strategy: Define and communicate the environmental and sustainability strategy across senior leadership and within project teams.
  3. Intelligent Customer Role: Define scoping and procurement strategies for outsourced environmental studies, ensuring alignment with UKAEA's objectives.
  4. Environmental Integration: Embed environmental requirements into engineering projects through BAT workshops and ENVID planning.
  5. Quality Control: Validate environmental studies, assess risks, and input into the performance evaluation of external service providers.
  6. Resource and Stakeholder Management: Develop resource strategies, manage consultants, and facilitate cross-programme collaboration to maximize environmental resource use.
  7. Standards and Training: Lead the integration of environmental initiatives with the UKAEA corporate ISO14001 Environmental Management System and upskill teams on environmental legislation and standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Education: Degree or equivalent in a relevant field; environmental or engineering qualifications.
  2. Industry Experience: Proven track record in environmental management for large, complex programmes, with expert knowledge of environmental and sustainability legislation.
