Technical Support Specialist for Nuclear Operations

About the Role
At National Nuclear Laboratory, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Support Specialist to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, contributing to the management and operation of waste and environmental arrangements for NNL's Sellafield Operations.
About You
We are looking for a professional with experience in industrial environments, safe systems of work, and associated documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational and coordination skills, as well as excellent knowledge of liquid effluent and waste management principles. A proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is also essential.
Main Responsibilities
- Management of liquid effluent facilities at Central and Windscale Laboratory.
- Deputising for the Technical Support Manager (Waste & Environment).
- Coordination of solid waste consignments to Sellafield / NWS / Mitie.
- Monitoring and controlling Waste Liabilities costings of the laboratories.
- Representing the organisation in compliance roles, including Radiation Protection Supervisor (Sources), CoSHH Coordinator, Environmental Coordinator, ILW Coordinator, Plant Solid Waste Coordinator, PCM Coordinator, and Liquid Effluent Coordinator.
- Ensuring adherence to Safe Systems of Work procedures and reporting any necessary remedial actions.
- Providing guidance on operational documentation and associated Safe Systems of Work.
- Managing resources and equipment to support waste operations.
- Leading audits, observations, and inspections to monitor and effect remedial action where necessary.
Necessary Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in a relevant field, such as Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM).
- IOSH Working Safely or higher qualification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to achieve DV Clearance.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of industrial waste issues and solutions.
- A good understanding of NNL operations on the Sellafield Site.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Environmental Management or Health and Safety.
