Mental Health Support Worker

Job Overview
Black Country Job Support is seeking a skilled Mental Health Support Worker to join our Community Mental Health Teams in Walsall. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with healthcare professionals, care coordinators, and other support workers to provide high-quality support to individuals with complex mental health needs.
Main Responsibilities
• Provide support and time to allocated service users to promote their recovery and maintain them in their community environment.
• Assist care coordinators in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual care plans.
• Develop skills in therapeutic interventions and work with partner agencies to support service users' care.
Person Specification
• Good general education to GCSE level or equivalent.
• Evidence of training or development in mental health support.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to support service users with severe mental health needs to promote their own recovery.
• Ability to engage service users and work at a pace that will support their recovery in a community setting.
• Ability to provide practical support with activities of daily living essentials.
• A keenness to make a positive contribution and identify solutions to help empower service users.
• Working in partnership with other agencies.
• Proficiency in planning and facilitating group work.
• Ability to take responsibility for own work planning.
• Understanding of mental health illnesses and early warning signs of relapse.
• Understanding of risk assessment and risk management.
• Demonstration of an understanding of clinical governance issues.
• Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
• Demonstration of professionalism, including time-keeping, attitude, and values.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to acknowledge diversity and promote anti-discriminatory practices and equal opportunities.
• Ability to respond in a professional manner to challenging behaviors.
• Ability to travel to numerous community settings around the trust geographical area in a timely and effective manner.
