At University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Research Nurse Specialist to join our team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supporting clinical trials within our Clinical Research Facility. This includes providing exceptional specialist nursing care to patients participating in early phase clinical trials of experimental cancer and medicine treatments.

We require a Registered Nurse with post-registration experience, who has a strong background in teaching or mentorship, and is able to develop and maintain competencies and compliance with specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials.

Main Responsibilities
  • Coordinate care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, administration of experimental agents, and monitoring of expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities
  • Act as patient advocate, providing advice and information to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials
  • Liaise with drug companies and study sponsors, ensuring accurate collection and submission of data in line with study protocols and research regulations

Requirements
  • Registered Nurse Part 1, 2, 12
  • Relevant post-registration experience
  • Teaching or mentor course
  • Post-registration nursing experience
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience of acting as a patient advocate
  • Experience of phlebotomy, cannulation, and management of central lines

We estimate the salary for this role to be around £35,000 - £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.
