About the Role

We're seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering to lead and grow our newly formed technology team as we seek to move from a predominantly SaaS model to an in-house, fully owned and managed ecosystem.

This role will be instrumental in shaping our technology strategy, building a talented engineering team, and driving the successful development and delivery of cutting-edge internal and external-facing solutions and applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the hiring, onboarding, and management of a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment focused on innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.
  2. Develop and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap, outlining key initiatives, milestones, and deliverables to support the strategic goals of the organization.
  3. Work closely with the CTO and cross-functional stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, and priorities, and translate them into actionable development plans.
  4. Collaborate with the Head of UX/UI to ensure that our technology initiatives are aligned with user needs, preferences, and expectations, and that we are delivering tangible benefits and value to our end users.
  5. Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of a suite of internal and externally facing applications, including mobile apps, web portals, and backend systems, to enhance the EV charging experience for our customers and streamline internal operations.
  6. Collaborate with third-party specialist software companies to evaluate, integrate, and customize software solutions, with the ultimate goal of bringing key technology capabilities in-house and ensuring scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness.
  7. Drive the adoption of best practices, development methodologies, and quality standards across the engineering team, including Agile/Scrum principles, test-driven development (TDD), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  8. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members, empowering them to excel in their roles, contribute to the success of the technology team, and achieve their professional growth objectives.
  9. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the technology team and across the organization, promoting transparency, open communication, and cross-functional alignment.
  10. Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and assess their potential impact on our technology strategy and roadmap.

They will also have a strong understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices, with a focus on scalability, performance, and security.

The business is currently based in our offices in Southwark. The position is full-time and office-based.
