About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics Control Specialist to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As a key member of our Mechatronics Control Section, you will play a vital role in supporting the neutron and muon instruments and experimental equipment at our facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement motion control systems for our instruments, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with our mechanical teams to build and install motion control equipment, ensuring seamless integration with our existing systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Represent the Mechatronics Control Section at design reviews, ensuring our expertise is shared and our systems are optimized.
  • Contribute to the development of new technologies and innovations, driving the advancement of our field.
Requirements
  • Qualified HNC or above in a relevant engineering discipline or extensive experience in a relevant field of Mechatronics, Robotics, or Controls engineering.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of mechatronic experience within an industrial or scientific setting, including machine building, electrical systems, and PLC motion control systems.
  • Ability to critically analyze systems and diagnose root cause failures.
  • Knowledge of safety systems and working under Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Basic understanding of communication systems and setups for controllers such as ethernet IP, Biss-c/SSI, and RS232.
