About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our dynamic team at Hywel Dda University Health Board. As a key member of our General Medicine service, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our medical team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist medical care to patients presenting to Withybush General Hospital with acute medical problems
  • Lead a team of junior doctors and contribute to the management of patients in the General Medical Department and Care of the Elderly
  • Work across Acute and Community COTE Medicine, developing and maintaining a specialist interest
  • Participate in clinical audit and contribute to the improvement of medical practice
  • Engage in research activities and support the development of research projects
  • Teach and mentor medical students and junior doctors, contributing to the development of our medical team
Requirements
  • Eligibility to hold an Honorary Academic title at a partner university, with a commitment to participating in undergraduate teaching and research activities
  • On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date, or CESR or equivalent European
  • Broad-based experience in Acute General or Care of the Elderly Medicine, with knowledge of UK hospital systems and participation in CPD
  • Competence in Acute General and Care of the Elderly Medicine, with expertise in an elderly-based subspecialty
  • Safe and effective written and verbal communication skills, with knowledge and experience of communicating bad news
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience of NHS, with wider experience, research, and training in providing sub-specialty service
  • Membership of the British Geriatric Society (BGS), with additional clinical qualification(s)
  • Knowledge of risk management, annual job planning/appraisal review process, and research degree
