Family Support and Protection Specialist

Essex County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Support and Protection Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Family Support and Protection team, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of complex cases, providing expert guidance and supervision to colleagues, and leading the team in the absence of the Team Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess complex social care needs and develop support plans for vulnerable individuals, children, and families.
  • Provide expert guidance and supervision to colleagues, contributing to the development of practice standards.
  • Manage a demanding caseload, maintaining accurate and timely records, reports, and presentations.
  • Lead in various case conferences, court sessions, meetings, and statutory reviews, taking the lead when a social care perspective is needed.
  • Conduct assessments and devise responses to safeguard and promote a child's welfare, intervening as needed based on the assessment.
  • Build strong, effective working relationships within the Council, with partners, and voluntary agencies.

Requirements:

  • A recognised social work qualification, with current registration with Social Work England as a registered social worker.
  • Significant experience in social work, showcasing a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of all relevant legislation, regulations, and guidance.
  • Mentoring experience, guiding both Social Work students and newly qualified/experienced Social Work staff.
  • Strong relationships with partners, agencies, and the local community, with a focus on achieving shared objectives and creating a supportive framework for children, young people, and families.
