Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Buyer to join our Lingerie department on a maternity cover basis. As a key member of our buying team, you will be responsible for implementing our sourcing and buying strategy for Lingerie products, ensuring that our customers receive the best possible products at the right price.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the buying team to ensure targets are identified and met
  • Ensure that our supply base has the capability to meet our requirements
  • Negotiate with suppliers for the best price while maintaining product integrity and standards in production
  • Understand and contribute to our brand and product handwriting
  • Ensure that agreed levels of good, better, and best products are bought
  • Review competitor activity and ensure customer/competitor benchmarking is completed
  • Understand profit and intake margin strategy, focusing on achieved margin targets
  • Continually drive newness and initiative, maximizing sales and minimizing risk
  • Challenge and manage underperformance where necessary
  • Work with garment tech to take joint responsibility for fit and quality
  • Regularly visit stores and work closely with retail colleagues
  • Work with the supply base/wider buying team to source and develop new product opportunities
  • Secure dates for product sign-off at appropriate points in the season
  • Oversee critical path management for the department
  • Assist in driving marketing and trading activity
  • Ensure Competency Reviews are completed, and Personal Development plans are developed and kept live with the buying team
  • Work with the HR team to ensure that the teams are developed to the required skill levels
  • Cascade strategic objectives to the wider teams
  • Work alongside the buying teams to ensure that agreed looks and colour palettes are developed and delivered with consistency
  • Develop and share best practice across the buying floor
  • Ensure that communication of issues and developments to the Director is timely, consistent, and in the appropriate format
  • Undertake project work when required
  • Deliver a profitable range in a timely manner
  • Develop a range that works visually alongside other products to agreed guidelines
  • Build and motivate a professional and respected team
  • Work within budget to increase sales while reducing markdown

Requirements:

  • A passion for fashion, particularly in the non-standard sizing market
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach to completing given tasks
  • A willingness to learn and the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A commercial outlook and a keen business sense
  • A proven record of good attendance and flexibility
  • The ability to adapt to frequent change in a high-pressure environment
  • Commitment to behaving with integrity and professionalism at all times
  • A proven history of taking personal responsibility and accountability for actions, constantly striving to improve and exceed expectations, and ensuring safety and quality are never compromised
  • A relevant qualification at degree or equivalent level
  • Experience of working within a buying team environment, within a multiple brand retailer, preferable
  • Strong commercial awareness and a minimum of 3 years at Buyer Level
  • Tangible knowledge of putting together a profitable range
  • Effective communicator, presenter, and team player
  • Ability to adopt a flexible approach when required and to think swiftly
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritize projects
  • Experience of Lingerie product category
