Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to join our Footwear & Accessories team. As a key member of our buying team, you will be responsible for implementing the sourcing and buying strategy for our Footwear & Accessories product range.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement a commercial range with the Buying Manager, ensuring alignment with our brand and product strategy.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best possible prices while maintaining product integrity and standards.
- Ensure that our supply base has the capability to meet our requirements, including quality and delivery.
- Contribute to the development of our brand and product handwriting, ensuring that our products meet the needs of our customers.
- Meet deadlines and adhere to the critical path, ensuring that our buying calendar is managed effectively.
- Set clear performance standards and expectations for yourself and your team members.
- Present the range in Trading, selection, sign-off, and review meetings, ensuring that our products are showcased in the best possible light.
- Actively trade the department, reviewing commitment against current sales performance and setting action plans accordingly.
- Work with our Footwear & Accessories tech team to take joint responsibility for fit and quality, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards.
- Source and develop new product opportunities, working across our supply base and buying team.
- Secure dates for product sign-off at appropriate points in the season, ensuring that our products are launched on time.
- Understand and contribute to our profit and intake margin strategy, focusing on achieving target margins.
- Manage key administrative duties for the Buying team, from product concept to finished bought product.
- Communicate effectively with all suppliers and internal departments, ensuring that our critical path is managed effectively.
- Manage order raising process as and when required, with Buying Manager/Director approval.
- Manage sample process and organisation for the department, ensuring that our products are showcased in the best possible light.
- Manage garment approval process to achieve a commercial, saleable product.
- Fulfil general ad hoc duties as required.
- Deputise for Buying Manager/Director, ensuring that our team is managed effectively.
- Manage the critical path, demonstrating proactive problem-solving and meeting deadlines.
- Self-motivated, with a clear understanding of market trends and customer profiles, contributing knowledgeably to all meetings.
Requirements
- A passion for fashion, particularly in the non-standard sizing market.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- A self-motivated and proactive approach to completing given tasks.
- A willingness to learn and the ability to work under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A commercial outlook and a keen business sense.
- A proven record of good attendance and flexibility.
- The ability to adapt to frequent change in a high-pressure environment.
- Commitment to behaving with integrity and professionalism at all times.
- A proven history of taking personal responsibility and accountability for actions, constantly striving to improve and exceed expectations, and ensuring safety and quality are never compromised.
- A relevant qualification at degree or equivalent level.
- Experience of working within a Buying team environment, within a multiple brand retailer, preferable.
- Strong commercial awareness and a minimum of 2 years at Assistant Buyer Level.
- Tangible knowledge of putting together a profitable range.
- Effective communicator, presenter, and team player.
- Ability to adopt a flexible approach when required and to think swiftly.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Confident working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritise projects.
- Experience of Footwear & Accessories product categories.
