Nuclear Engineering Specialist
We are expanding our teams to facilitate the advancement of the next phase in Nuclear Development.
Join us in redefining the landscape of nuclear construction in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Our Nuclear Development division is dedicated to assisting significant stakeholders in the nuclear industry in realizing the new build renaissance. Many of our partners are entering a prolonged construction phase, and your contribution will be vital during this pivotal and exhilarating period for nuclear energy in the UK.
As a Nuclear Engineering Specialist, you will concentrate on the design of new nuclear power facilities and provide engineering assistance while the plant is being commissioned and operated in startup or testing phases. This role will require you to perform design evaluations in support of construction modifications, thus a background in equipment engineering (including Mechanical, Piping, HVAC, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Control) will be advantageous. We are seeking professionals in the Bristol region to join a diverse team dedicated to supporting significant projects.
The primary focus of this role will involve the creation and execution of a work pipeline that enables us to develop and deploy skilled personnel as our clients' projects transition from construction to commissioning and pre-operations, ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation and regulations. A robust safety culture is essential, aligned with the standards of the nuclear and high-hazard industries.
Engineers at AtkinsRéalis play a crucial role in delivering transformative initiatives within the UK nuclear sector. This is an exceptional time to become part of the industry as we engineer a sustainable, zero-carbon future for our planet.
Qualifications and Skills:
At AtkinsRéalis, we are in search of candidates with prior experience in Construction or Operational Support roles, including but not limited to:
- Experience in Operational Roles and/or Support Roles at operational Nuclear Power Plants (preferably PWR technology), or within another highly regulated sector.
- Recognized as a safety-focused professional, demonstrating behaviors and competencies that foster a strong safety and delivery culture.
- Experience in construction, commissioning, pre-operational, or operational settings with a strategic understanding of international best practices and operational focus.
- Familiarity with maintenance and outage environments for operational facilities, providing a strategic perspective on international best practices and work execution.
- Enthusiastic about leveraging a blend of technical and operational expertise to cultivate the necessary skills in our teams to assist clients in the later stages of major nuclear new build projects and into operational phases.
- Willingness to travel and work from client sites as required by the role, project, or secondment. This position necessitates availability for on-site work during commissioning and startup activities.
AtkinsRéalis is among the world’s foremost multi-disciplinary consultancy firms, providing unmatched opportunities for individuals seeking a fulfilling career. We offer more than just employment; we provide a chance to make a meaningful impact and shape the world for future generations and the environment. At AtkinsRéalis, we take pride in the exceptional work we accomplish, thanks to our diverse range of thoughts, expertise, and knowledge. By joining us, you will become part of a genuinely collaborative environment where every voice is valued and respected.
Our Commitment:
The UK is the first major economy to set a Net Zero target by 2050. To achieve this, our nuclear and clean energy teams are ensuring a blend of secure and sustainable energy sources that can meet our industry and lifestyle demands today and in the future. We contribute to powering our world through innovative technologies and intelligent cybersecurity systems on projects that vary significantly in size, scope, and scale. You will be instrumental in creating safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewables, decarbonization initiatives, new builds, and energy efficiency.
Inclusivity and Support:
When you join us, you will benefit from a comprehensive reward package that can be tailored to your lifestyle, career, and personal needs. From flexible holidays to life assurance, health and wellbeing benefits, and career planning for senior stages of your career, we prioritize your support. If you identify as having a disability, please inform us ahead of your interview to discuss any necessary adjustments.
About Us:

Additional Information:
This role may require security clearance, and offers of employment will depend on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If necessary, this will be discussed during the interview process. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community—a place where everyone can be themselves, thrive, and grow. To promote inclusion from day one, we offer a variety of family-friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and employee networks to support staff from diverse backgrounds. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.
