Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at RAF Lakenheath. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.

Salary Information:
The starting salary for this position is approximately £14.55 per hour.

As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on heavy mobile equipment and vehicles, troubleshooting malfunctions, and determining necessary repairs. You will use diagnostic tools, order parts, complete documentation, and provide training and assistance to others as well as utilize safety practices and procedures.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Perform heavy mobile equipment mechanic work, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Conduct automotive mechanic work on various vehicles (e.g., forklifts, trucks, buses, ambulances).
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and order parts for repairs.
  • Complete documentation and provide training and assistance to others.
  • Follow safety practices and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
You will be skilled in troubleshooting and repairing heavy and light vehicles and equipment, using hand and power tools, diagnostic instruments, and measuring devices. You will be able to interpret and apply repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, and safety guidelines to maintain, repair, overhaul, and rebuild equipment. Additionally, you will communicate effectively, provide training to others, and maintain accurate records. An NVQ level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and repair, Automotive Maintenance and Repair or similar is required. A valid Category B driver's license is also essential.
