About the Role

We are seeking an experienced medical secretary to join our team at St Austell Healthcare. As a medical secretary, you will provide administrative support to our doctors and healthcare professionals, ensuring the smooth operation of our practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general secretarial support, including word processing and audio typing skills, to our doctors and healthcare professionals.
  • Manage referrals, including generating NHS and private referrals, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Coordinate correspondence, including typing letters, reports, and patient referrals, in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Liaise with patients, external organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Assist with the maintenance of filing and administrative systems, ensuring that information is easily accessible and secure.
  • Support the development and implementation of new policies and procedures, and contribute to the ongoing compliance with the CQC's essential standards of quality and safety.

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, who is able to work effectively as part of a team and manage change. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of providing high-quality administrative support, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to self-development.

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ level 3 in administration or RSA level III, with proficient and accurate audio typing skills.
  • Minimum 60 wpm audio typing skills.
  • Previous experience of working within a GP practice, with a good understanding of medical terminology and medical read coding.
  • Excellent user of Microsoft Office and general IT skills.

Desirable Requirements

  • Medical Secretarial qualification.
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
  • Previous experience of working in a pressured environment.
  • Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Access to Medical Records Act.
