Job Title: Commercial Superintendent

Join Northern Marine Group as a Commercial Superintendent and take on a challenging role that requires a unique blend of technical and commercial expertise. As a key member of our shipboard management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all Company vessels under your control are maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with client, Company, flag state, and classification society requirements.
  • Operate managed vessels efficiently to required standards, minimizing downtime and maintaining client assets.
  • Act as principal point of contact between ship and shore-based staff.
  • Audit day-to-day technical running of vessels managed by the Company under your control.
  • Provide advice to vessel staff and Company management within your area of expertise.
  • Monitor vessels to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, certification, safe manning, safety procedures, plant, and machinery.
  • Review vessel monthly returns and deal with surveys, extensions, and certificate validity.
  • Liaise with ship's personnel to ensure operational procedures are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain familiarity with Company rules and operating manuals.
  • Monitor and inspect log books, abstracts, and periodic returns.
  • Advise Fleet Manager on day-to-day issues and Senior Management on ship operating difficulties.
  • Carry out periodic ship visits, inspections, and drills.
  • Audit vessels as required by the Management System.
  • Maintain documentation and promulgate technical bulletins.
  • Ensure day-to-day manning of vessels with technically competent staff.
  • Coordinate and monitor efficient, safe, and economic provision of services required for ship operation.
  • Assist Fleet Manager in preparing annual operating cost budgets.
  • Prepare budgets and specifications for dry-docking and voyage repairs.
  • Verify and authorize quotations for spares, supplies, and services.
  • Monitor vessel expenditure and prepare accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist Fleet Manager in preparing Insurance Claim reports and submissions.
  • Interview senior officers and participate in periodic appraisals.
  • Provide cover for Fleet Manager during absences.
  • Liaise with all departments involved with support to vessels under your responsibility.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Qualifications to perform as a key member of the shipboard management team.
  • Demonstrable experience at sea, with experience as part of the onboard management team.
  • Demonstrable experience onshore, working for a Shipping Company in an Operations team.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of ISM/ISPS and MLC.
  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of budgets and maintaining cost controls.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of vessel operations, including safety procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Commercial acumen.

This role offers the opportunity for Hybrid working and is dependent on commercial demands.
