About this role

This is a 1-year, fixed-term post that combines a University Course with clinical work as a senior practitioner in a CAMHS team.

We are seeking vibrant, creative staff who share our passion for the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

The Post-Graduate Certificate in Autism-Learning Disabilities at CYP-IAPT aims to equip practitioners with the skills necessary to improve access and outcomes for children and young people with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities.

The course is part-time for one year, and trainees use teaching, self-directed study, and supervised clinical practice to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Increased understanding of the challenges faced by this client group
  • Ability to identify and assess Autism and LD using neurodevelopmental history taking and observation
  • Increased knowledge of interventions that target core symptoms
  • Knowledge and practice of post-diagnostic psychoeducation approaches
  • Knowledge and practice of effective assessment, formulation, intervention, and evaluation with behaviour that challenges
  • Training in 'Riding the Rapids', a group parent-training approach to support CYP with behaviour that challenges
  • Knowledge and practice of adaptations to existing skills in intervention in mental health conditions, to improve access and effectiveness of interventions such as CBT, counselling, and systemic therapy

Solar are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, adaptable, and flexible in their approach. Balancing the demands of the course with the fast-paced nature of the role can be difficult, therefore excellent organisational skills and time management are a must.
