Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist Respiratory/NIV Dietitian to work within the Respiratory MDT at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be mainly based on the two respiratory wards at the Trust, each of which contains a Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) for patients requiring enhanced respiratory support including NIV, CPAP and HFNO.

The successful candidate will provide specialist advice to respiratory patients, including those with severe COPD, bronchiectasis and TB, as well as patients stepping down from intensive care requiring intensive rehabilitation. The post holder will also lead the Dietetic Respiratory inpatient service provision on the Trust site.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will be part of the larger dietetic team at the Trust, working closely with therapy colleagues to develop the respiratory service. The post holder will be integrated within the ward MDT, attending board rounds every week. This is a fast-paced environment, so good leadership and organisational skills are essential to this role.

The successful individual will take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of a variety of complex patients, requiring significant dietetic experience within a range of specialities, including enteral feeding, oral nutritional support, rehabilitation and the ability to obtain relevant anthropometric measurements.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • Registration with HCPC

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-graduate experience in relevant specialist area
  • Practical skill & in-depth experience in a multi-disciplinary setting in relevant specialist field evidenced by a learning portfolio and leading to advanced theoretical knowledge in area/s of clinical practice
  • Significant to substantial postgraduate experience of working in a specialist capacity in multi-disciplinary teams leading to the acquisition of advanced theoretical knowledge and highly developed skills.
