About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Equipment Technician to join our team at the NHS. As a key member of our medical engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our electro-medical equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Servicing and Maintenance: You will be responsible for the servicing, repairing, commissioning, and calibration of a wide range of electro-medical equipment, including ventilators, anaesthetic machines, ultrasound scanners, incubators, fetal monitors, neonatal and adult monitoring equipment, infusion pumps, and other life support equipment.
  • Problem-Solving: You will need to methodically solve complex problems with patient-connected equipment, some of which may be connected to medical information gathering networks where loss of data may have an impact on patient care.
  • Liaison and Coordination: You will work closely with external contractors, organizing and coordinating contracts and service visits to ensure seamless delivery of services.
  • Test Procedure Development: You will develop test procedures, taking into account manufacturers' recommendations and safe working practices, to ensure the highest standards of equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Clinical Support: You will provide advice and clinical support when required in the use of medical equipment throughout the Trust, ensuring that staff are equipped to provide the best possible care to patients.
  • Record Keeping: You will maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance schedules, and repair procedures, as well as produce work-related documents and spreadsheets as required.

Person Specification
  • Qualifications: A degree in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent acceptable engineering/technical-based qualification with relevant experience.
  • Experience and Knowledge: Substantial experience in maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of electrical and electronic or mechanical and electromechanical medical equipment, or experience in direct use, setting-up, and user maintenance of a range of patient-connected medical equipment, plus experience in the use of IT.
