Transport Planner (Flatbed) Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our team at Reed Procurement & Supply Chain. As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for controlling the efficient deployment and routing of delivery vehicles around the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan workloads to ensure compliance with driver's hours and maximize vehicle and manpower utilization within a targeted budget.
  • Use geographical knowledge to optimize routes and minimize running costs.
  • Brief and debrief drivers, supervise and manage driver workloads, and source extra drivers when needed.
  • React to route planning changes and re-route as necessary.
  • Provide a detailed and accurate handover to the next shift and maintain driver and depot communication.
  • Ensure drivers have the correct paperwork and compliance, and are up to date with any road problems.
  • Work within a team of planners to achieve the common goal of effectively servicing our current client base.
  • Liaise with the Transport Manager regarding regular maintenance intervals and with Site Managers to obtain and provide key information such as ETAs.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Transport Planner in a busy, fast-paced office.
  • Experience monitoring drivers and a solid understanding of transport operating systems.
  • A knowledge of tachograph regulations and the ability to organize workload in a consistent and methodical way.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, work to deadlines, and work independently.
