Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Slitter/Rewinder Operator to join our team at Taylor Higson, a leading packaging and labels company located in the UK. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining slitting and rewinding machinery to ensure the efficient production of high-quality packaging materials.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, as the operative will need to monitor the production process closely, making adjustments as necessary to meet quality standards and production targets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the end of the production process, taking the master printed rolls, performing the final quality control and finishing functions on them, and preparing the roll for dispatch.

The shift pattern for this role is:

  • 6am – 2pm Monday – Friday
  • 2pm – 10pm Monday – Friday

No weekends, no bank holidays.

The Role:

  • Set up, inspection, and operation of rewinder/slitter machinery
  • Loading and unloading of printed material rolls and movement of materials around the factory
  • Correctly understand and complete job-related instructions
  • Setting of clock/counter for final Reelage
  • Setting of machine tensions for specific materials using controls
  • Using strobe light, visual checks, and print fault flags to remove waste and poor-quality print
  • Carry out inspection, slitting, and rewind of reels to final finishing spec as per job cards, correctly identifying core size required
  • Monitor quality and consistency of product, identifying and removing all non-conforming products, set up and in-process waste, placing into provided bins
  • Packaging of finished reels for dispatch
  • Responsible for correct packing for transportation, minimizing the possibility of damage during transport
  • Ensuring that all operations are carried out and complete necessary paperwork/job cards to ISO standards as outlined in company manuals
  • Share with other operators' inspection details with regard to historical jobs when required
  • Responsibility for keeping a clean and organized working environment
  • Working to strict deadlines while maintaining quality control
  • Daily checking of guards
  • Maintenance of Blades
  • Calibrate machine to correct core size as cutting
  • Cutting cores using the Core Cutter
  • Alerting senior management to any stock issues – cores, tapes, etc.
  • To communicate fully with all relevant parties and assist whenever issues arise relating to your specific area of responsibility within the department
  • To respond professionally and efficiently to any contact with internal/external customers.
