Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Homeless Support Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing targeted and effective support to single homeless Service Users, facilitating access to healthcare, benefits, and permanent housing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Receiving and processing authorised referrals to the service, gathering pertinent background information and personal history to allow for timely placement decisions.
  2. Implementing QQH Service User induction procedures, ensuring that all essential paperwork is completed.
  3. Evaluating and managing risks associated with Service Users using the traffic light system, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions in line with Supporting People guidelines.
  4. Drawing up and implementing support plans to manage physical and mental health and wellbeing.
  5. Developing a positive professional relationship with assigned Service Users, arranging regular face-to-face meetings to assess, monitor, and update support requirements.
  6. Facilitating housing arrangements, ensuring compliance with the Supporting People framework.
  7. Offering expert guidance on social security and other benefits, assisting Service Users in navigating the benefits system and advocating on their behalf with various agencies.
  8. Actively involving Service Users in decisions related to their support and living conditions, adhering to a policy of transparent consultation as mandated by Supporting People.
  9. Developing individualised strategies to prepare Service Users for transition to independent living, aligning with Supporting People guidelines.
  10. Offering guidance and support for Service Users transitioning out of the hostel, ensuring a smooth and sustainable move to more permanent housing.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 'A' level pass grades/HND qualification or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years' direct experience as a Support Worker or of providing support to Service Users in settings with vulnerable populations.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Supporting People legislation and framework in Northern Ireland.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective SU support, including one-to-one engagement, crisis management, and active listening.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrable empathy for the challenges faced by homeless individuals.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with internal teams and various external services.
  • Competence in managing data and adhering to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development in alignment with Supporting People standards.
  • A degree in Social Work, Health & Social Care, Psychology, Criminology, or other related field; further certifications or qualifications in areas relevant to homelessness, social work, mental health, or crisis management.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is up to £33,000 per annum, with the opportunity to earn up to £35,000 p.a. upon successful achievement of specific performance and/or developmental objectives. Additional benefits include a workplace pension, access to a confidential employee wellbeing and counselling programme, provision of a staff uniform, paid lunch breaks, company pension, health and wellbeing programme, referral programme, and 6 weeks of annual leave.

Location and Shift:

This role is based in South Belfast, with an 8-hour shift pattern. We offer flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of the business and service users.
