Job Title: Design and Technical Lead

Holtec International and its subsidiary companies are pioneering the development of an unconditionally safe and secure source of clean energy, the SMR-300 small modular reactor. As a member of the Holtec Britain team, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for the energy industry, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems engineering efforts.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for the engineering assessment, design, and safety justification of the SMR-300 for deployment in the UK and worldwide. Key responsibilities will include delivering technical scope of high integrity/complex I&C systems within the I&C discipline, as well as taking ownership of the I&C engineering chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing multidisciplinary team of engineers designing the next generation nuclear power station. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with the US SMR I&C team and contribute to the development of the I&C chapter of the Safety Case for submission in the SMR-300 GDA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on I&C Systems Engineering for SMR-300 plant protection, control, and monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrate SMR-300 I&C architecture suitability for safety functional claims.
  • Demonstrate production excellence of the I&C Platform(s) utilised in SMR-300.
  • Oversight, as Intelligent Customer, of key evidence supporting safety claims.
  • Support the development of the I&C chapter of the Safety Case for submission in the SMR-300 GDA.
  • Coach and mentor to develop the team and the individuals in technical and personal skills enabling them to deliver.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations including the nuclear regulators.
  • Defend I&C design positions.
Requirements:
  • Degree qualified in an engineering or science related discipline.
  • Must possess excellent credentials in principles of power plant digital control design.
  • Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to engage credibly within and external to the business.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills – able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.
  • A credible decision maker, able to create confidence through crafting of strong justifications and arguments.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
