About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and flexible Teaching Assistant to work on a supply basis at an Ofsted Outstanding Client School located in York, North Yorkshire.

The successful candidate will work with class teachers to ensure that lessons are delivered in accordance with students' individualised learning goals, and support students on a 1:1 basis.

This role requires adaptability, as the successful candidate will be called upon as needed to cover staff absences and support different classes across the school.

The school consists of students aged 11-18 and has been graded as 'Outstanding' by OFSTED in their quality of education, personal development, leadership and management, and their sixth-form provision.

The school believes that every student's learning should be personalised, with students feeling challenged, motivated, and empowered.

They welcome all children and prioritise admission for children with SEND.

They offer a range of training opportunities to help teachers stay at the forefront of educational practices.

As students learn in different manners, teachers adapt these varying learning styles in their lessons.

They use small group intervention to target gaps in understanding in core subjects.

For SEN children who require adaptations to accommodate their requirements, the school ensures access arrangements are in place to support their normal approach of working, and, when necessary, deploys teaching assistants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers with managing classroom, delivering lessons under the teacher's guidance, and helping students with their learning on a 1:1 and small group basis.
  • Provide dedicated support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom environment.
  • Use appropriate strategies to manage and support student behavior.
  • Work with class teachers and other support staff to provide the best educational, emotional, and social support.
  • Assist with maintaining classroom discipline and supporting students with behavioural issues.
Requirements
  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Have prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or as an Education Practitioner.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to ensuring the welfare of children.
  • The ability to manage and promote positive behaviour in-line with school policy.
  • Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
