About the Role

The Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt) will be responsible for managing and overseeing all quarrying operations on site, while also providing assistance to the Asphalt plant. This role requires a strong focus on safety and operational standards, with a keen eye on cost control, people management, and delivery to customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a highly skilled team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
  • Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, while maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
  • Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material
  • Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry
  • Understanding Quarry Regulations enabling a Reg 8.1d appointment
  • All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations
  • Maintaining and implementing existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training staff on the same
  • Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all site equipment
  • Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
  • Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to the operational team
  • Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of staff and keeping an up-to-date training matrix
  • Collating and reporting on monthly performance KPIs for the business unit
  • Ensuring appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures

Requirements

  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
  • Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
  • Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
  • Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multitask and manage change
