About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Risk Manager Lead to join our Unsecured Credit Risk team at Nationwide Building Society. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the credit risk of our Unsecured portfolios, which includes designing effective new lending strategies, managing the credit quality of Personal Loans, Credit Cards, and Current Accounts, and providing specialist credit risk advice to the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach a team of analysts in refining lending strategy, reporting on performance, and creating insight for senior committees and regulators.
  • Use accurate and meaningful insights and management information to inform senior leadership, identify emerging risks, drive efficiencies, and design robust credit strategies.
  • Evolving our credit control and portfolio management approach to support the growth of our Unsecured portfolios.
  • Build and develop relationships with key stakeholders at a senior level, representing Credit Risk at internal and external meetings.
  • Develop and optimise Credit Risk strategies and policies, providing expert advice to ensure our lending stays within risk appetite, while also supporting business partners in designing pragmatic solutions that support financial plans.
  • Assess new tools and data sources as they become available, with a view to using them to support the digitalisation agenda.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Risk Manager Lead who possesses:

  • Proficiency in Credit Risk Portfolio Management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Retail Credit Risk, especially in Unsecured lending.
  • Experience with advanced analytical tools (e.g., SAS) and software (e.g., PowerBI).
  • Experience conducting regular portfolio reviews and stress testing.
  • The ability to oversee and optimise credit risk portfolios according to Nationwide's risk appetite and strategic goals.
  • Proven leadership skills and initiative to deliver positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and updating comprehensive credit risk policies that are compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with senior management to integrate risk management frameworks into the Society's strategy.
