Precision-Oriented Power Systems Engineer Wanted

We seek a Power Systems Engineer to join our Manchester-based team, working on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) turnkey solutions. As a vital member of our team, you will contribute to designing and delivering full HVDC control and protection solutions for wind farm grid connections and interconnectors.

This role requires collaboration with project management and engineering specialists to develop and validate simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools. You will analyze sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and harmonic converter impedance, and optimize the dynamic behavior of the HVDC converter according to customer and national grid code requirements.

About the Position

  • DESIGNING AND DELIVERING FULL HVDC CONTROL AND PROTECTION SOLUTIONS FOR WIND FARM GRID CONNECTIONS AND INTERCONNECTORS
  • DEVELOPING AND VALIDATING SIMULATION MODELS FOR DIVERSE EMT SIMULATION TOOLS
  • ANALYSING SUB-SYNCHRONOUS TORSIONAL/CONTROL INTERACTIONS AND THE HARMONIC CONVERTER IMPEDANCE
  • OPTIMIZING THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF THE HVDC CONVERTER ACCORDING TO CUSTOMER AND NATIONAL GRID CODE REQUIREMENTS
  • SUPPORTING PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS AND PARTICIPATING IN CUSTOMER MEETINGS
Key Qualifications
  • UNIVERSITY DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING WITH A FOCUS ON POWER ENGINEERING
  • INITIAL EXPERIENCE IN THE AREAS OF POWER CONVERTER TECHNOLOGY (HVDC AND FACTS), HIGH-VOLTAGE TECHNOLOGY, DIGITAL SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY AS WELL AS CONTROL AND AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY
  • BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF REAL-TIME SIMULATION SYSTEMS, PREFERABLY WITH RTDS AND SIMULATION TOOLS, PREFERABLY WITH RSCAD
