Job Title: Senior Research Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer to join our Additive Manufacturing Team at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering technical excellence across a portfolio of projects, providing thought leadership on the delivery of innovative technical solutions, and playing a leadership role in the delivery of impactful project outputs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the impact of existing products and develop value propositions to raise awareness of existing products and emerging value propositions.
  • Contribute to technical and business strategies by developing specific technical and multi-theme roadmaps that define how technology-based value propositions can be developed to meet manufacturing challenges.
  • Identify collaborative research and development funding opportunities and develop winning proposals to fund the development of value propositions.
  • Provide technical governance and guidance to colleagues in the delivery of project work.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues in an empathetic manner.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the business development, product management, and technology management functions.
Requirements:
  • Degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist, or mathematician.
  • Hands-on operation of polymer AM equipment.
  • Polymer AM process research and development.
  • Polymer chemistry and polymer AM material formulation.
  • Focused solution/application development for industrial end users.
  • Collaborative R&D bid development, including ideas creation, identification of funding routes, consortium building, and bid writing.
  • Providing AM technical training.
  • Leading and managing small teams of engineers.
  • Supporting development of engineers through activities such as coaching, mentoring, and objective setting.
Desirable:
  • Experience of ceramic AM processes and materials.
  • AM standards, certification, and qualification.

We are looking for a candidate who is able to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influence and negotiate with stakeholders, and demonstrate leadership capability. The successful candidate will also have expertise recognised both internally and externally within their field, probably as a chartered engineer or scientist and Fellow of an appropriate institution.
