About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Vehicle Dynamics Engineer to join our Performance Simulation Team at Williams Racing. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering continuous improvement of vehicle models and simulation tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the PS Team Leader in creating the PS Team strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Understand and Quantify Performance Factors, including driver interaction, to optimize vehicle performance.
  • Parameterize Vehicle Models using track data, rig data, and other relevant sources to ensure good correlation.
  • Evaluate Performance Effects of design or setup changes, providing data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
  • Optimize Design Specifications and support track setup decision-making, ensuring the vehicle meets performance and safety standards.
Key Objectives and Duties
  • Car Performance Fundamentals: Define and develop processes, tools, and experiments to evaluate and understand the lap time influence of all vehicle features.
  • Driveability Fundamentals: Implement a plan to understand the influence of dynamics and stability on lap time, including driveability, controllability, and balance.
  • Inference and Analysis Toolset: Specify and support the development of tools for model parameterization, simulation correlation/validation, and track performance analysis.
  • Future Car Programme Support: Provide car performance data required for the business and identify new concepts for development.

  • Parameterization and Correlation: Define, achieve, and maintain good correlation of simulation tools to reality, ensuring accurate results and monitoring performance over time.
Requirements
  • Excellent Technical Ability: Strong degree in engineering or a related discipline, with a focus on simulation development, data analysis, and model creation.
  • Great Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, deliver to agreed deadlines, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Programming Experience: Proficiency in C++, Python, or MATLAB, with knowledge of optimal control solvers (IPOPT) and nonlinear optimization (Knitro) an advantage.
  • Self-Motivated and Innovative: Ability to generate innovative ideas, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative and Team-Oriented: Strong teamwork skills, with a commitment to continuous improvement and a willingness to work extra hours when needed.
