About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Systems Administrator to join our IT Support team at Nationwide Building Society. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting and optimizing our existing database systems, as well as helping to shape our team's strategy and direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level support for our enterprise production MSSQL databases, including troubleshooting, patching, backups, and performance tuning.
  • Develop and improve processes to drive service improvement and ensure high availability of our database systems.
  • Lead and contribute to all aspects of database administration, including cluster support, auditing, and security.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of junior technical staff, with a focus on shifting 2nd line support to our 24x7 operations team.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call support rota to ensure seamless support for our database systems.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years' experience of enterprise production MSSQL support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot using Windows event logs, SQL logs, and cluster logs.
  • Windows AG and FCI clustering support and troubleshooting experience.
  • Skilled in Database Audit and Security Processes.
  • Experience of working within an ITIL framework.
  • Comfortable with performance tuning using query plans, indexing, DB design, etc.
  • Experienced in reviewing and approving SQL design documentation.
  • Experience with SSIS and SSRS would be beneficial.
