Job Title: Principal Field Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Field Engineer to join our team at Class Technology Solutions Ltd. As a Principal Field Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise to our clients in the Education Sector.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Visiting client sites to provide technical support and guidance on projects and future system enhancements.
  • Providing advice and guidance on technical issues and taking ownership of technical issues on site.
  • Escalating technical issues to the CTS Helpdesk and liaising with other members of the CTS senior team.
  • Providing the highest level of technical expertise to all assigned client networks, utilising best practice.
  • Mentoring the Network Manager and Engineers on site and assisting in progressing them onto the next level of Engineer within the CTS.
  • Attending emergency call outs and covering the absence of engineers where needed.
  • Assisting the Helpdesk team with escalated issues where you have additional knowledge of the site or product.
  • Dealing with incoming issues in a professional, courteous manner and taking ownership of issues/tickets.
  • Conducting full and thorough diagnostics with end users to enable issue/ticket resolution.
  • Liaising with your sites in regard to their daily and weekly checks and providing support as required.
  • Scoping requirements for client projects and working with the Head of Technical and Account Managers to identify current setup and required goals.
  • Leading engineering projects for client sites and providing a detailed scope of works and design to the client.
  • Leading individuals or teams on site and delegating appropriate tasks to ensure the correct running of the project on time.
  • Working with the account manager to liaise with the client to ensure all equipment is correct and that the client sees you as the face of the project.
Requirements:
  • Hands on experience with wired and wireless networking, switches, virtual environments, firewalls, web filtering, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in Maths and English.
  • A-Level, BTEC, NVQ, or T-Level in a relevant subject.
  • Industry qualifications within the IT sector - Microsoft, Cisco, Aruba, Apple, is preferred.
  • 4-5 years experience in an IT Support environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues to establish the root cause of the problem.
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to provide feedback to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Solid understanding of wired and wireless networks and devices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience in the education sector.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to assist non-technical users of IT.
  • Ability to assess and re-prioritise workloads when circumstances or demands change.
  • Ability to take the initiative when necessary.
