The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our team in Newcastle Upon Tyne. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement tailored support plans for students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in creating and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) that address students' specific needs.
  • Foster a safe and nurturing classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.
  • Monitor and document students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Support students' social and emotional development through positive reinforcement and skill-building activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of effective support strategies with colleagues.
Requirements
  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their social, emotional, and mental health.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to understanding and addressing the diverse needs of learners.
  • Creativity and adaptability to design and implement effective support strategies.
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is desirable but not essential.
  • A proactive approach to professional development and continuous learning.
