Job Overview
Sainsbury's is a leading UK retailer seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and coach talented engineering teams. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technology landscape of our organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain high-availability clusters for kafka, monitoring clusters, identifying and resolving performance issues proactively.
  • Develop and support connectors for seamless data flow between various sources.
  • Line manage and guide a multi-skilled engineering team, ensuring they have the necessary resources and skills to support and maintain in-house built kafka platforms, as well as the administration of Confluent Cloud.
  • Mentor and coach team members, recruiting diverse and talented individuals, and promoting a culture of collaboration, learning, and respect.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers to define the vision and technical direction of products, managing multiple deliveries and taking end-to-end ownership of your products, including change management and service management.
  • Drive the development of new features, promote best engineering practises, and advocate for agile / lean delivery methodologies.
  • Manage initiative-level budgets, ensure adherence to processes and standards, and demonstrate positive attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a culture of excellence and inclusivity.
Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of Kafka architecture (and the eco system e.g. Kafka-Connect, Schema Registry, KSQL), administration skills including configuration, tuning and monitoring.
  • Passionate and experienced leader with a deep understanding of engineering practises and a talent for coaching and developing teams.
  • Strong technical expertise and previous experience managing and operating Kafka clusters combined with ability to prioritise and manage multiple deliveries.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, building strong relationships at all levels and contributing to inclusive and diverse culture.
Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary range of £85,000 - £115,000 per annum, depending on experience. We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, offering flexible working, up to 26 weeks' pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks' pay for paternity leave.
