South West Energy Strategic Planning Technical Lead

We are seeking an experienced Energy Planning Specialist to join our team in the South West region. As a key member of our regional energy planning team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing regional energy strategies that support the transition to a cleaner, greener, and more affordable energy system.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement regional energy strategies that align with national energy policy and objectives.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders, including local government, gas and electricity networks, and other local actors, to understand regional energy needs and develop effective solutions.
- Lead the development of regional energy plans, including the South West Regional Energy Strategic Plan (RESP), and ensure they are aligned with national energy policy and objectives.
- Work closely with our central team to develop and implement geospatial visualizations to support regional insights and communicate key changes in the energy system.
- Represent NESO's regional energy planning function to energy system planners and energy leads within local government, gas and electricity networks, and other local actors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local government, gas and electricity networks, and other local actors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Technical experience within and knowledge of the energy sector, including energy scenarios.
- Understanding of the 'whole energy' system, with experience in one of the energy vectors (gas and/or electricity networks, heat decarbonisation, hydrogen, transport decarbonisation, etc).
- Experience of working with or within energy distribution and/or transmission companies, ideally relevant to the region(s) you seek to work within.
- Understanding and experience of geospatial data modelling, ideally applied in energy planning, including knowledge of data management procedures.
- Ability to translate complex and technical information into easily understandable messaging for non-technical audiences.
- Experience of communicating with, and influencing, internal and external stakeholders at a range of levels.
- Project management, coordination and planning skills to ensure that deadlines are met, governance is adhered to, stakeholders are effectively engaged and high quality process and outputs are achieved.
- A competitive salary between £46,000 - £54,000 per annum – dependent on experience and capability.
