Senior Avionics Design Engineer Role

This exciting opportunity at Airbus Helicopters is a chance to lead the design of avionic systems, ensuring they meet customer requirements while adhering to certification standards. As a Senior Avionics Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing design leadership and translating concepts into detailed designs that comply with OEM type certificate systems and operational philosophies.

Main Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage all avionic activities within a multi-function environment, aligning them with business requirements.
  • Capture and understand customer requirements, providing guidance internally and externally to facilitate cost-effective design and production solutions.
  • Define avionic design concepts and integration from agreed customer requirements through to detail design.
  • Ensure designs meet customer and certification requirements within a formal validation and verification process.
  • Undertake independent compliance verification in accordance with AHUK DOA privileges when approved.
  • Produce and direct detailed designs in accordance with project milestones.
  • Discuss and present design concepts and solutions during customer and supplier meetings.
  • Support risk management through identification, assessment, and mitigation within scope of responsibility.
  • Initiate design mitigation as necessary to address project issues such as obsolescence, shortages, and production concessions.
  • Produce concise and accurate design descriptions to facilitate change approvals and aircraft documentation.
  • Provide liaison support to production functions.
  • Define ground and flight testing to demonstrate compliance with customer and certification requirements.
  • Support required testing and documented analysis of results.
  • Generate or verify compliance substantiation reports as needed.
  • Maintain technical competency and currency to ensure effective use of latest technology, supporting customers in developing and fulfilling their mission requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A strong aviation background in the Avionics discipline.
  • Detailed engineering knowledge and aircraft avionics systems, preferably with a helicopter bias, along with a good working understanding of equipment qualification processes and related standards, FAR/CS 27 and 29 Certification Requirements, and EASA/CAA Part-21J DOA and MAA DAOS process and practice.
  • Understanding of aircraft system and software safety analysis processes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or other 2D CAD suite for electrical integration.
  • Experience using Design Lifecycle and Configuration Management Tools.
  • Computer literacy in Google workspace applications would be highly desirable.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is £80,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additionally, you will have access to a range of benefits including private medical insurance, pension contributions, share incentive plans, and success shares.

About You

To be successful in this role, you should have a degree in Engineering or equivalent, along with relevant experience working in a design/engineering environment with electrical/avionic systems integration. You should also possess professional accreditation or be working towards one.
