Community Development Opportunity at Cambridge Science Centre

We are seeking an experienced Community Development Specialist to join our team at Cambridge Science Centre. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in community development, education, and outreach.

This role is responsible for leading a new community-focused initiative aimed at increasing access to our educational offerings. You will research areas of need and collaborate with community leaders to develop a robust network of partnerships that facilitate participation from children facing barriers to engagement.

The estimated salary for this position is £28,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience. Our standard working hours are 7.5 hours per day, and parking and bike storage are available at both our locations.

You will have the opportunity to work with diverse audiences, including children, parents, and community leaders, and to manage multiple projects, coordinate schedules, and oversee programme logistics effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Research & Needs Assessment: Identify key areas within Cambridge where children face barriers to accessing STEM engagement.
  • Partnership Development: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders and organisations.
  • Programme Development: Develop, co-design, and coordinate events with a place-based approach or under a thematic area.
  • Outreach & Communication: Maintain regular contact with community stakeholders, building trust and ensuring effective two-way communication.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Track the impact of community programmes, gathering feedback and adjusting strategies to improve engagement and outcomes continually.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in community development, education, or outreach, particularly with underrepresented groups.
  • Understanding of the voluntary sector.
  • Experience in supporting or organising events.
  • Project management and delivery experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust-based relationships and engage diverse audiences.
