Data Infrastructure Manager

At Origin Sciences, we are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Data Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our data infrastructure, integrating data between teams, and streamlining data flow at an organisational level.
Main Responsibilities:
- Data Infrastructure Management: The Data Engineer will be responsible for managing our cloud resources to enable us to process large volumes of sequencing data.
- Improvement and Automation: The candidate will implement improvements to enhance usability and security of our infrastructure, and implement automation to streamline data collection from laboratory instruments.
- ETL and Data Centralisation: The successful candidate will use ETL to help with centralisation of organisational data.
- Ad Hoc Engineering Support: The Data Engineer will provide ad hoc requests for engineering support from the laboratory and clinical teams.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Programming Skills: Python/R or equivalent programming language for data processing.
- Cloud Infrastructure Experience: Experience configuring and managing cloud infrastructure.
- Cloud Security: Understanding of cloud security best practices.
- API Integration: Familiarity integrating APIs with existing infrastructure for process automation.
- Containerisation and Scheduling: Experience with containerisation, such as Docker or Singularity, and experience with schedulers, such as AWS Batch, GCP Batch or Slurm.
- Version Control: Git and version control.
- Ability to Evaluate Data-Handling Practices: Ability to critically evaluate data-handling practices in a commercial R&D environment.
Desirable:
- Cloud Certification: Associate level cloud certification.
- SQL and Relational Databases: SQL and relational databases.
- Human Genomics Data Processing: Understanding of how to process human genomics data in line with UK GDPR requirements.
