Job Title: Group Technical Manager

Job Summary:

The Group Technical Manager is a key role within North Star Shipping, responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance of all ships assigned, owned, and operated by the company. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including SOLAS, IMO, Class, and Flag Administrations regulations and guidelines.
  • Liaise with Classification societies, Port State, and Flag State to address new requirements or perceived problems.
  • Assist and support Vessel Superintendents in achieving their objectives, including maintaining vessels in 'Class' and within agreed budgets.
  • Monitor the performance of vessel's Engineering Officers and Assistants and take prompt action when unacceptable practices or behaviors are identified.
  • Hold regular meetings with Technical Superintendents and the Chief Technology Officer to discuss budgets, projects, and other issues.
  • Undertake ship visits on board all vessels on a regular basis.
  • Review and assess the performance of relevant technical staff in respect of annual performance bonus and annual staff appraisals.
  • Deputize as necessary in the absence of the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Provide out-of-hours service as required.
  • Actively promote and progress the company's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy.
  • Actively promote inter-departmental communications.
  • Participate in the Emergency Response Team as required.

Requirements:

  • Managerial experience in the offshore support vessel sector is required.
  • Preferably qualified to Chief Engineer Unlimited standard (or a recognized equivalent).
  • Good working knowledge of electronic Planned Maintenance Systems and Purchasing systems is essential.
